As reported in Above Magazine,  when David Morris made the decision to pursue a real estate career full time, he had a lot working against him. Double-digit interest rates, a weak economy, and on top of it all, Morris was experiencing poor health from the stress of his previous job. But with a wife and growing family at home, he had even more reasons to succeed. Morris joined RE/MAX in 1991 and he never looked back. More than two decades later, Morris is a Luminary of Distinction. This elite honour is awarded to those who have earned over $20 million in commissions during at least 20 years with RE/MAX. How did he make it happen? Continue reading to hear some of his best advice, developed over his long career. Take Ownership In Morris’ early real estate years, he sold homes for Coldwell Banker. He felt like he had a job but not a profitable real estate business. During a conference in 1985, he realized that his current selling process needed an overhaul if he wanted to create a lasting business. “I suddenly realized that it’s not about how much business […]

Combine Your Skills With the Power of RE/MAX http://beyourcareer.ca/2017/04/power-remax/ Mon, 17 Apr 2017 17:23:39 +0000 http://beyourcareer.ca/?p=1867 Combine Your Skills with the Power of RE/MAX As reported in Above Magazine’s blog post, Frank Baldwin combined his skills with the power of RE/MAX and reached Platinum quickly. He now shares how you can too! Frank Baldwin worked as a discount real estate agent for years and then as an executive managing six real estate offices at Help-U-Sell, a low-service real estate brand. But this all changed in 2014 when he joined Mike and Susan Varley’s RE/MAX Real Pro’s team in Corona, California. Working in the discount model required a large time commitment. With RE/MAX, Baldwin can run his business on his terms and he can keep more of what he earns. The result: more income with each transaction, higher career satisfaction, and a much healthier work-life balance. “At Help-U-Sell, I had to do three times the amount of work to reach my goals,” Baldwin says. Baldwin did come away with one important thing from working with Help-U-Sell – an incredible work ethic. In order to meet the endless demands of his previous position, Baldwin had become an efficient practitioner. He knew how to take advantage of every opportunity and every lead in order to generate business. He was comfortable […]

RE/MAX History http://beyourcareer.ca/2017/04/remax-history/ Thu, 06 Apr 2017 21:59:39 +0000 http://beyourcareer.ca/?p=1680 RE/MAX History – People Know the Balloon It all began as a dream and an idea on a pad of paper. Dave Liniger had a controversial idea to build a real estate company where experienced, productive agents could keep more of their commissions and enjoy the freedom to run their business as they saw fit. Liniger had previous experience with the maximum commission model. He realized it would appeal to full-time, serious real estate professionals who would rather contribute collectively to office expenses than settle for a traditional commission split. Combining the model with robust marketing and other valuable agent services was revolutionary – and completely changed the worldwide real estate landscape forever.   The Beginning Dave Liniger and Gail Main (who later became Gail Liniger) founded RE/MAX in Denver, Colorado in January 1973. Along with their core group, they built the foundation of their network on hard work, belief and resolve. And big things began to happen. 1975 – The network expanded outside of Colorado. Dennis Curtin purchased a franchise in Kansas City, Missouri. 1977 – The first Canadian franchise was purchased in Calgary, Alberta. 1978 – The RE/MAX Balloon made its maiden flight at the Albuquerque Balloon Festival. 1979 – The RE/MAX Balloon […]

Top Producing Agents want RE/MAX http://beyourcareer.ca/2017/03/top-producing-agents-want-remax/ Mon, 13 Mar 2017 18:59:40 +0000 http://beyourcareer.ca/?p=1646 Top Producing Agents want RE/MAX What happened? As reported in Above Magazine’s blog post, in April 2016, the managing brokers of a RE/MAX office in Toronto decided to convert the brokerage to another brand – Royal LePage. Regrettably, the managing brokers failed to see a big hole in their plan – their associates didn’t want to leave RE/MAX. Within a few short months, 12 of the office’s top producing agents left the brokerage and went right back to the Balloon. They joined RE/MAX Community Realty Inc., a sizable competitor in the Toronto market. Why did they return to RE/MAX? Shan Thayaparan was among the 12 agents who returned to RE/MAX. He didn’t want to leave the RE/MAX brand in the first place, but he was willing to give Royal LePage a try. This was largely because he enjoyed working with his colleagues. Ultimately, low morale soon set in at the Royal LePage office. “We weren’t feeling comfortable at the new brand,” Thayaparan says. “Our hearts and minds weren’t with Royal LePage.” Two months after the conversion, Thayaparan and his colleagues were thrilled to be back at RE/MAX. The Benefits of RE/MAX Have all the advantages of owning your own business At RE/MAX, […]

As a result, I wrote a series of emails that were well received at the time and I decided to revisit them and reproduce them here in the form of a blog post. In the fourth and final blog post in this short series, I want to discuss one’s mindset. The Power of Your Mind – In Business King Soloman is often quoted in this area. He says: “A man thinketh in his heart, so he is,” and he goes on to say, “a man is what he thinks, his character being the complete sum of his thoughts.” A personal favourite of mine is from a […]
